Ian Maitland, born on November 4, 1937, in Belgrade, is a Scottish nobleman. He is known as the 18th Earl of Lauderdale. From 1968 to 2008, he was called "Master of Lauderdale" and "Viscount Maitland." He holds an important position in Scottish history and tradition.

Early Life and Education

Ian Maitland is the son of Patrick Maitland, who was the 17th Earl of Lauderdale, and his mother, Stanka Lozanic. He went to a school called Radley College. Later, he studied at Brasenose College, Oxford University, where he earned a Master of Arts (MA) degree.

His Career Journey

From 1963 to 1973, Ian Maitland served as a lieutenant in the Royal Naval Reserve. This is a part of the Royal Navy that helps support the main fleet. In 1974, he started working at National Westminster Bank. He worked his way up to become a senior manager for a region before leaving in 1995.

After that, he was a director for Maitland Consultancy Services, Ltd. from 1995 to 2007. He also worked as a marketing advisor for the London School of Economics from 1995 to 2001.

In 1986, he became a member of the Royal Company of Archers. This is a special group that serves as the monarch's bodyguards in Scotland. In 1998, he gained the special status of a freeman of the City of London. He also became a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers. This means he joined an old guild in London.

In 2008, Ian Maitland became the Earl of Lauderdale after his father passed away. This also made him the chief of Clan Maitland, which is a historic Scottish family group. On April 27, 1963, Ian Maitland married Anne Paule Clark. She passed away in 2020. They had one son and one daughter:

On October 10, 2020, Ian Maitland married for a second time. He married Sarah Lindsay Sasse, whose maiden name was Collings. Their wedding took place at St Mary's, Bourne Street in Belgravia. Sarah was the widow of Captain Frederick Hugh Sasse.
