The Ibáñez River is a beautiful river in Chile. It flows through the amazing Aysén del General Carlos Ibáñez del Campo Region. This river is about 88 kilometers (55 miles) long. It starts near a volcano and ends in a large lake.

Where the River Starts and Flows
The Ibáñez River begins its journey high up. It starts on the slopes of the Hudson volcano. This volcano is a big, impressive mountain. From there, the river flows towards the south-east. It winds its way through the mighty Andes mountains. The Andes are a very long mountain range in South America.
Journey to the Lake
As the river travels, it passes by important places. It flows into the huge General Carrera Lake. This lake is shared by Chile and Argentina. The river's mouth, where it meets the lake, is about 217 meters (712 feet) above sea level.
Near Cerro Castillo
The Ibáñez River also runs along the southern edge of the Cerro Castillo National Reserve. This reserve is a special protected area. It is home to the famous Cerro Castillo mountain. This mountain looks like a castle, which is how it got its name.
Towns Along the River
Near where the Ibáñez River flows into the lake, you'll find a town. This town is called Puerto Ingeniero Ibáñez. It's an important place for people living in the area. The town is located very close to the end of the river.
