Ibn Hayyan facts for kids
Ibn Hayyan was a famous Muslim historian. He lived a long time ago, from 987 to 1075. He was born in a place called Córdoba in Al-Andalus. Today, Al-Andalus is part of Spain.
His full name was Abū Marwān Ḥayyān ibn Khalaf ibn Ḥusayn ibn Ḥayyān al-Qurṭubī (Arabic: ابن حيَّان القرطبي). But most people know him as Ibn Hayyan. He was from the Berber people.
Ibn Hayyan's father was an important person. He worked for the ruler of Al-Andalus, al-Mansur. His father also wrote history books.

Who Was Ibn Hayyan?
Ibn Hayyan became a great historian. He wrote many books about the history of Al-Andalus. His writings are very important for learning about this time. They tell us a lot about the city of Córdoba. They also describe the kings of the different small states called taifas.
His Views on History
Ibn Hayyan really liked the Umayyad rulers. He was sad when their rule ended. He felt that Al-Andalus became weaker after they lost power. He didn't like how the country split into many small taifa states.
Early Mentions of Vikings
Ibn Hayyan's work is also special for another reason. He wrote about Viking raiders. He called them Majus. This is one of the earliest times Vikings were mentioned in historical records from that region.
