Ichabod – The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a special music album by the famous singer Bing Crosby. It came out in 1949. This album tells the well-known story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving. It was originally released on phonograph records.

About the Album's Creation

Bing Crosby had already lent his voice to the "Ichabod" part of a Walt Disney movie. This animated film, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, came out in October 1949. Before the movie was released, Bing Crosby recorded the story separately for Decca Records. He did this on June 23, 1949.

The songs on the album were written by Don Raye and Gene De Paul. Simon Rady was the director for the recording. Victor Young and His Orchestra provided all the music.

Songs on the Album

All the songs for this album were recorded on June 23, 1949. Don Raye and Gene De Paul wrote them. Simon Rady directed the recording, and Victor Young and His Orchestra played the music.

The album was first released as a set of two 78 rpm records. These records were designed to be "auto-coupled". This meant they were arranged so that if you had a record player with a changer, the songs would play in the correct order without you having to flip the records.

In 1949, the album was also released on a 10-inch LP (Long Play) record. This LP, called Decca DL 6001, had the "Ichabod" story on one side. On the other side, it featured the story of "Rip Van Winkle".

The "Rip Van Winkle" story was narrated by Walter Huston. It was recorded earlier, on August 16, 1945. The music for "Rip Van Winkle" was played by Wilbur Hatch and His Orchestra.
