Ichasagua facts for kids
Ichasagua was a brave Guanche leader from the island of Tenerife. He was an important member of the Guanche nobility in the area known as Adeje.
Who Was Ichasagua?
Ichasagua became a Mencey (which means an aboriginal king) after European explorers arrived and started to take over the island in the 1400s.
In 1502, many Guanches did not want to accept the rule of the Castilians (people from Spain). They chose Ichasagua to be their new king. He set up his main base in a strong natural fortress called Roque del Conde.
His Family
Ichasagua had one known descendant, a person named Juan García Chasagua. Juan lived much later, towards the end of the 1500s.
The End of His Reign
Ichasagua never agreed to the "Peace of Los Realejos." This agreement was what officially ended the conquest of the island. Ichasagua was the very last Mencey of Tenerife. He was killed by other native people who supported the Castilian rule.
