Ichiro Hosotani (細谷 一郎, Hosotani Ichirō, born January 21, 1946) is a famous former Japanese football player. He was known for playing as a forward, which means he was one of the main players who tried to score goals for his team. He played for the Japan national team and had a very successful career with the Mitsubishi Motors club.

A Football Star's Journey
Ichiro Hosotani was born in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, on January 21, 1946. From a young age, he showed great talent in football. He played for his high school team at Kobe High School from 1962 to 1964. After that, he continued to play football while studying at Waseda University from 1965 to 1968.
Playing for Mitsubishi Motors
In 1969, after finishing university, Hosotani joined the Mitsubishi Motors football club. This was a big step in his career, and he quickly became a key player.
- In his first year, 1969, his team won the Japan Soccer League, which was the top football league in Japan at the time.
- They also won the Emperor's Cup in 1971, another important football competition.
- The year 1973 was also very successful, as Mitsubishi Motors won both the Japan Soccer League and the Emperor's Cup again.
Ichiro Hosotani played for Mitsubishi Motors for ten years, until 1978. During his time with the club, he played in 140 league games and scored an impressive 58 goals!

The year 1978 was truly special for Ichiro Hosotani and Mitsubishi Motors. The club achieved a rare "treble," meaning they won all three major football titles in Japan:

After this incredible season, Ichiro Hosotani decided to retire from professional football.
Playing for Japan
Ichiro Hosotani also had the honor of representing his country on the Japan national team. He made his first appearance for Japan on July 13, 1978, when he was 32 years old. This debut match was against the Iraq team.
