The Iglesia-convento de Santa Teresa is a special church and convent found in Ávila, a city in Spain. Its name in Spanish means 'Church and Convent of Saint Teresa'. It is a very old and important building.

What the Church Looks Like Outside
This church was built by a group called the Discalced Carmelites. They started building it in the early 1600s. People believe it stands on the exact spot where Saint Teresa of Ávila was born. The design follows a style popular with the Carmelites.
The front of the church has a main rectangular shape. It is split into four parts. At the top, there's a triangular shape called a pediment with a circle inside. Below this, you can see a large coat-of-arms, which is like a family symbol.
At the very bottom, there is a statue of Saint Teresa herself. The main entrance has three rounded arches. The middle arch is the biggest and has tall, flat columns on each side.
Inside the Church
The inside of the church was built in a style known as Valladolid classicism. It has a large main area called a nave. On each side of the nave, there are two smaller walkways called aisles.
The church also has a transept, which is like the arms of a cross shape. Above where the nave and transept meet, there is a large dome or cupola. One very special part is the Chapel of Birth. This chapel is right next to the main altar area. It is believed to be the exact place where Saint Teresa was born.
Protecting This Historic Place
The Iglesia-convento de Santa Teresa is considered a very important historical site. It has been protected by the Spanish government since 1886. It is officially known as a Bien de Interés Cultural, which means 'Property of Cultural Interest'. This helps make sure the building is preserved for future generations.
