Early Life and Career
Ignacio Aldama was born on May 7, 1780. His hometown was San Miguel de Allende in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. He studied to become a lawyer. However, he also became very successful in business.
Role in the Mexican War of Independence
When the Mexican War of Independence began, Ignacio Aldama quickly joined the fight. This war was about Mexico becoming free from Spain. He joined forces with Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, who was a leader of the independence movement.
Aldama was a brave and skilled fighter. He was soon promoted to the rank of general. This meant he was a very important military leader.
Mission to the United States
After becoming a general, Ignacio Aldama was given a special job. He was sent to the United States as a minister. A minister is like an ambassador or a representative. His mission was to ask the United States for help. He hoped they would support Mexico's fight for independence.
Arrest and Death
While on his important mission, Aldama traveled to a place called Bejar. There, he discovered a new problem. Some people, led by Juan Manuel Zambrano, were planning a revolt. This revolt was against the very leaders of the independence movement.
On March 1, 1811, these new rebels took control. Aldama was arrested during this time. He was then sent to Monclova. Sadly, Ignacio Aldama was executed there on June 20, 1811. He was only 31 years old.
