Life and Writing Journey
Ignacio Solares was born on January 15, 1945, in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. Even though he was born there, many of his stories take place in Mexico City.
He wrote many historical novels, which are stories based on real events from the past. For example, his book La invasión tells about the United States' invasion of Mexico City in 1847 during the Mexican–American War. But it also focuses on the main character's personal life during that time.
Another historical novel, Columbus (written in 1996), is about Pancho Villa's invasion of the United States. And Nen, la inútil (1994) explores the arrival of the Spanish Conquistadores in ancient America.
Solares was also interested in how the human mind works. He wrote essays and a play called La moneda de oro ¿Freud o Jung? (The Golden Coin, Freud or Jung?). These works show his interest in psychology and understanding people's thoughts and feelings.
A writer named Eladio Cortés once said that Solares' novels are "simple like a fairy tale" but also "complex" and make you think deeply. He praised Solares' ability to keep readers interested.
Ignacio Solares passed away in Mexico City on August 24, 2023, when he was 78 years old.
