Ilarion Ciobanu (born October 28, 1931 – died September 7, 2008) was a famous Romanian actor. People often called him "a legend" and a truly special Romanian actor. He was known for his strong presence and unique acting style.

About Ilarion Ciobanu
Ilarion Ciobanu was born in a place called Ciucur, which was part of Romania back then. He grew up in a big family with six brothers. When he was only 8 years old, his father, Vlase, sadly died in an accident. His father worked as a longshoreman, helping load and unload ships.
After his father's death, Ilarion's mother, Olga, moved the family to Constanța. She worked hard as a cook at a hospital to take care of her children. Sadly, two of his siblings passed away due to illness.
Early Life and Many Jobs
From a young age, Ilarion Ciobanu started working to help his family. When he was just 12, he had many different jobs. He worked as a longshoreman, a farmer, and even a tractor driver. He also spent time as a miner, a digger, a carpenter, a sailor, and a fisherman. He was a very hardworking person!
He even volunteered to help build the Bumbești–Livezeni railroad. He drove a dump truck, moving stones for the construction of the Danube–Black Sea Canal. This shows how dedicated and strong he was, even when he was young.
Rugby and Acting Career
Ilarion Ciobanu was not just a hard worker; he was also a talented athlete. Starting in 1948, he played rugby. He played for several teams, including Știința București, Dinamo București, and Progresul București. He played rugby until 1962.
In 1958, he was accepted into a famous acting school in Bucharest, the I.L. Caragiale Institute of Theatre and Film Arts. However, he didn't finish his studies there. Instead, he worked as an electrician at the Bulandra Theatre. His acting career began when he made his first movie, called Thirst, in 1961.
Family Life
Ilarion Ciobanu was married twice to Tamara Barna, who was a dancer. Later, in 1972, he married Marion. They adopted Natalia Doina, who was Marion's daughter from her first marriage. In 1978, they had a son named Ioachim.
Later Years and Legacy
Ilarion Ciobanu passed away in Bucharest when he was 76 years old. He died from laryngeal cancer. According to his wishes, his body was cremated. His ashes were then scattered into the Black Sea. He is remembered as a very important and beloved actor in Romanian cinema.
