Ilave, also known as Illawi, is an important city in Peru. It is the main city of the Ilave District, which is part of the El Collao Province in the Puno Region. In 2012, it was estimated that about 57,366 people lived there. The city is located right by the Ilave River and is west of the famous Lake Titicaca.

Climate in Ilave

Ilave is located very high up, at about 3,862 meters (12,671 feet) above sea level. This means it has a cool climate all year round.

Temperature Patterns

The temperatures in Ilave do not change much throughout the year. The warmest months are usually October and November, with average high temperatures around 16 to 17 degrees Celsius (61 to 63 degrees Fahrenheit). The coolest months are June and July, where highs are around 14 degrees Celsius (57 degrees Fahrenheit).

Nights can get quite cold, especially from May to August. During these months, temperatures can drop below freezing, sometimes as low as -3 degrees Celsius (27 degrees Fahrenheit).

Rainfall and Seasons

Ilave experiences a distinct wet season and dry season.

  • Wet Season: This runs from December to March. January and February are the wettest months, with a lot of rain.
  • Dry Season: This is from May to August. During these months, there is very little rain, and the weather is often sunny but cold.
