Ildikó Enyedi (born November 15, 1955) is a talented Hungarian film director and screenwriter. She is famous for directing the movie On Body and Soul. This film won a major award at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival. It was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

About Ildikó Enyedi's Early Life and Studies
Ildikó Enyedi was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1955. Her father, György Enyedi, was a well-known geographer and economist. He helped a lot with how different regions developed over time.
Her Education Journey
Ildikó first earned a degree in economics. Then, in 1980, she started studying film at the Academy of Drama and Film in Budapest. She also studied film in Montpellier, France. When she was starting out, Ildikó created a type of art called conceptual art. She was also part of creative groups like Balázs Béla Studio and the Indigo group.
Ildikó Enyedi's Film Career

Ildikó Enyedi won the Golden Camera award for her film My 20th Century. This happened at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival. In the same year, she began teaching at the University of Theatre and Film Arts.
Working as a Film Festival Judge
Ildikó Enyedi has been a judge at important film festivals. In 1992, she was on the jury at the 42nd Berlin International Film Festival. Later, in 2007, she was a jury member at the 29th Moscow International Film Festival. Being a jury member means she helped decide which films won awards.

Her 1994 film Magic Hunter was shown in the main competition at the 51st Venice International Film Festival. In 2011, she earned her doctorate degree from the University of Theatre and Film Arts.
Directing for Television
In 2012, Ildikó Enyedi worked with HBO Europe. She directed a Hungarian TV show called Terápia. This show was based on an Israeli series called BeTipul. It was about a therapist who helped people and then got help himself. Ildikó directed 39 episodes of the show from 2012 to 2017. She said this project felt "healing" after some of her film ideas took a long time to get made.
Success with On Body and Soul
Ildikó Enyedi's 2017 film On Body and Soul was first shown at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival. It won the top prize there, called the Golden Bear. The film was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. It represented Hungary at the awards.
Future Film Projects
In 2018, Ildikó Enyedi announced her next film. It was based on a book called The Story of My Wife by Milán Füst. The story is about a man who makes a bet to marry the next woman he sees. The film The Story of My Wife was released in 2021. Her film Silent Friend is currently in post-production.
Leadership Roles
Ildikó Enyedi used to be the president of the Hungarian Directors' Guild. This group supports film directors in Hungary. In April 2023, she was chosen to be the president of the Short Film and La Cinef jury at the 76th Festival de Cannes. In 2024, she was a jury member for the 'International competition' section at the 37th Tokyo International Film Festival.

Ildikó Enyedi is married to an author named Wilhelm Droste. They have two children. She lives in both Budapest, Hungary, and Nordrhein Westfalen, Germany. In 2002, she received a special award called the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary.
