Leading Kosovo
From May 1967 to May 1974, Ilija Vakić was the Chairman of the Executive Council for a region called the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija. Think of the Executive Council as the main government team for that area. Kosovo was a special region within the larger country of Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. This means it had some power to make its own decisions. After his time as Chairman, another person named Bogoljub Nedeljković took over.
Role in the Yugoslav Government
Ilija Vakić also played a role in the central government of Yugoslavia. From 1982 to 1986, he was part of a big meeting group called the Central Committee of the 12th Congress. This group helped guide the political party.
Later, from 1986 to 1988, Vakić worked in the Federal Executive Council. This was like the main government cabinet for all of Yugoslavia.
