Ilomska facts for kids
Ilomska (Иломска) is a beautiful river located in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It's like a smaller stream that flows into a bigger river called the Ugar. The Ilomska river is about 20 kilometers long. It starts high up in the Vlašić Mountain. This river is super important for all the plants and animals that live nearby!
Where Does the Ilomska River Flow?
The Ilomska river winds its way between two mountains: Žežnička Greda, which is about 1,477 meters high, and Javorak, standing at about 1,499 meters. It makes curvy turns around other mountains too, like Lisina (1,494 meters) and Runjavica (1,316 meters).
As it flows, the river passes through different kinds of forests. You'll see tall evergreen trees like fir and spruce, and also mixed forests with spruce and beech trees. After it flows past a place called Petrovo polje, the river makes some really sharp bends and turns.
Amazing Waterfalls
One of the coolest things about the Ilomska river is its two amazing waterfalls! A few kilometers after passing the village of Vitovlje, the Ilomska river rushes into the Ugar river. The biggest waterfall is about 40 meters tall – that's like a 13-story building!
These wild and beautiful waterfalls are a big draw for many people. Mountain-climbers love to explore the area, tourists come to see the natural beauty, and fishermen enjoy trying to catch fish in its waters.
