Independent Hill is a small community in Prince William County, Virginia. It is not a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it is part of the larger county.
This area is located along a main road called State Route 234, where it meets Joplin Road. Around 2006, the main road was changed to go around the town. This left Independent Hill on a quieter side road. The wider area around Independent Hill is called a "census-designated place" by the government. This means it's a place the Census Bureau defines for counting people. In 2010, about 7,419 people lived here.
Education and Local Services
Independent Hill is an important spot for education in the county. It is home to the Prince William County School Board Complex. This is where the main offices for the school system are located. People who work in administration, support, and maintenance for the schools report to this complex.
History of the Area
Not far from Independent Hill, there was once a place called the Greenwood Gold Mine. This mine operated for a few years, but it closed down in 1885. It was one of the local businesses that helped shape the area's early history.
