Physaria repanda, also known as the Indian Canyon twinpod, is a special kind of plant that grows in Utah. It's a species of wildflower that lives for many years, meaning it's a perennial. It belongs to the Brassicaceae family, which is also known as the mustard family.

What it Looks Like

The Indian Canyon twinpod has tiny, fuzzy hairs all over it. These hairs are called trichomes, and they are very dense and shaped like little stars.

Stems and Leaves

The main stem or base of the plant, called the caudex, is quite thick. It can grow to be about 10 to 20 centimeters (4 to 8 inches) long.

The leaves at the bottom of the plant grow in a circular shape, like a rose. These leaves point upwards and are about 4 to 7 centimeters (1.5 to 2.7 inches) long and 1 to 2.5 centimeters (0.4 to 1 inch) wide. They can be shaped like a wide egg or almost perfectly round. The leaves that grow on the plant's stem are shaped like a spear, wider at the tip, and are about 1.5 to 3 centimeters (0.6 to 1.2 inches) long.

Flowers and Seeds

The plant's flowers have parts called sepals, which are like small leaves that protect the flower bud. These sepals are oval-shaped and measure about 7 to 9 millimeters (0.27 to 0.35 inches) long.

The flower petals are bright yellow and are shaped like a tongue or a spoon. They are about 10 to 12 millimeters (0.4 to 0.5 inches) long. The small stalks that hold the flowers, called pedicels, point upwards and are about 1 to 1.5 centimeters (0.4 to 0.6 inches) long.

After the flowers bloom, the plant produces seed pods called siliques. These seed pods are divided into two equal parts and are very fuzzy. They can grow up to 1.5 centimeters (0.6 inches) high. Inside the seed pod, there's a frame called a replum, which can be either fuzzy or smooth. The young seeds inside these pods are round and full, and they do not have wings.
