The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center is in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The 19 Indian Pueblos of New Mexico own and run it. Its main goal is to keep the Pueblo Indian culture, history, and art alive. This center is a nonprofit organization. It opened in August 1976. It shows the amazing history and achievements of the Pueblo people. This includes everything from ancient times to today.
What the Center Does
The center works to protect and share Pueblo culture. It helps people understand the history of the Puebloan peoples of New Mexico. It does this by showing their achievements and how their history has changed over time. Everything is presented with respect and dignity.
Exploring the Museum
The center has a large museum. It is about 10,000 sq ft (1,000 m2) big. Here, you can see real artifacts from traditional Pueblo cultures. You can also see modern Pueblo art.
Special Exhibits and Art
On April 2, 2016, a special exhibit opened. It was called "We are of This Place: The Pueblo Story." This exhibit celebrated the center's 40th birthday. It shows how the 19 Pueblos have been creative and adapted over time. This helped them survive and grow.
The museum also has smaller exhibits that change often. These shows feature art from Pueblo artists living today. You can see both traditional and modern art.
Events and Activities
On Saturdays and Sundays, you can watch traditional Indian dances. Artists also show how they create their work. These events are open to everyone.
In 2022, the center had an exhibit called Pivot. It showed painted skateboard decks made by young Native artists. Also in 2022, the center got a grant of $100,000. This money came from the National Endowment for the Arts. It helped the center hire new staff. This means they can offer more public programs and activities.
