The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center is a special place in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is owned and run by the 19 different Pueblo Indian communities of New Mexico. This center works to keep Pueblo culture, history, and art alive and strong. It is a nonprofit organization, which means it doesn't make money for owners. The center first opened in August 1976. Its main goal is to show the amazing history and achievements of the Pueblo people, from ancient times to today.

What the Center Does

The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center has a clear goal. It wants to protect and continue the unique Pueblo culture. It also helps people understand the Pueblo people better. The center shares the history and achievements of the Puebloan peoples of New Mexico with respect and pride.

Exploring Pueblo History and Art

The center has a large museum, about 10,000 square feet in size. This museum is filled with real historical items and art from traditional Pueblo cultures. It also shows modern art created by Pueblo artists today.

Main Exhibit: The Pueblo Story

To celebrate its 40th birthday, a new exhibit opened on April 2, 2016. It is called "We are of This Place: The Pueblo Story." This main exhibit shows how creative and adaptable the 19 Pueblo communities have been. Their ability to change and grow has helped them survive and thrive. It also highlights the many different ways each Pueblo community is unique.

Newer Art and Events

The center also has a smaller exhibit that changes often. This part of the museum shows the work of artists who are alive today. Some of these artists create traditional Pueblo art, while others make modern pieces.

You can often see traditional Indian dances at the center. Artists also show how they create their work. These events are open to everyone on Saturdays and Sundays.

In 2022, the center had a cool exhibit called Pivot. This show featured painted skateboard decks made by younger Native artists. Also in 2022, the center received a big grant of $100,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts. This money helped the center hire new staff. It also allowed them to offer more public programs and activities for visitors.
