Life of Isabel Fernanda
Early Years
Isabel Fernanda was born an Infanta of Spain. Her parents were Infante Francisco de Paula of Spain and Princess Luisa Carlotta of the Two Sicilies.
In 1833, King Ferdinand VII of Spain passed away. His wife, Queen Maria Christina, was the younger sister of Isabel's mother, Luisa. Queen Maria Christina secretly married Agustín Fernando Muñoz y Sánchez. This marriage was kept quiet because it was considered a "morganatic" marriage. This means that Agustín was not of royal birth, and any children from this marriage would not inherit royal titles or rights.
When the marriage became known, it caused a big disagreement between Queen Maria Christina and her sister Luisa Carlotta. Because of this disagreement, the queen sent Luisa and her family, including Isabel, to live in Paris, France. Isabel was educated at a school in Paris.
