History of Ingalls

The first post office in the area opened in May 1887. It was first called Soule. However, its name changed a year later in May 1888.

The community was renamed Ingalls after John James Ingalls. He was a senator from Kansas. In the late 1880s, Ingalls even tried to become the county seat. This means it wanted to be the main town for Gray County.
