Ingeborg Tolderlund (1848–1935) was a Danish woman who worked hard for women's rights. She believed women should have the same opportunities as men. She was also a suffragist, meaning she fought for women to have the right to vote. In 1906, she started a local group of the Danish Women's Society in her hometown of Thisted, in northern Jutland. She led this group until 1927. Ingeborg Tolderlund is also known for supporting Thisted's music club, which she led for nearly 20 years.

Early Life and Family Background

Ingeborg Tolderlund was born on January 21, 1848. Her full name was Anna Ingeborg Caroline Møller. She was born in Nykøbing Falster, Denmark. Her parents were Lorents Conrad Møller and Johanne Marie Elisabeth Schrader.

When Ingeborg was four years old, her family moved. They moved to Copenhagen, the capital city. She grew up in a family that had many connections. They knew important people in culture and politics.

In 1874, she married her cousin, Lorentz Conrad Møller. He was a doctor. They moved to Thisted together. After he passed away, she married another doctor, Julius Christopher Tolderlund.

Working for Women's Rights

Ingeborg Tolderlund chose to focus her energy on important causes. Instead of having children, she worked on cultural and political activities. She often invited important people to her home. There, she organized concerts and meetings.

She was very interested in women's rights. This meant she wanted women to have more freedom and equal chances. She gave talks about famous Danish women. One example was Leonora Christina, a well-known writer.

Starting a Music Club

In 1901, Ingeborg Tolderlund helped create a local music club. She became the leader of this club in 1907. She led it for almost 20 years. Ingeborg was a skilled piano player herself. She worked hard to bring excellent musicians to perform. Sometimes, she even played the piano to accompany them.

Fighting for Women's Vote

Ingeborg Tolderlund's interest in the women's movement grew before 1900. In 1906, she started a local part of the Danish Women's Society in Thisted. Her main goals were for women to get the right to vote. She also wanted women to be able to run for public office.

From 1909, she was a member of the main board of the Women's Society. She helped set up more local groups in northern Jutland. In 1915, Danish women finally gained the right to vote. To celebrate this big event, Ingeborg planted a special tree. It was called the Women's Oak. She planted it at Sjørring Vold, west of Thisted.

Ingeborg Tolderlund was also an active member of the Conservative political group. She ran as a candidate in the 1918 elections. However, she was not elected.

Ingeborg Tolderlund passed away in Thisted on January 17, 1935. She is buried in Thisted's Søndre Kirkegaard.
