After starting at Atalanta, Donina spent time on loan at U.S. Cremonese in 1969. He returned to Atalanta for a season before moving back to Cremonese in 1971. These early years helped him gain valuable experience on the field.
Playing for Reggiana and Vicenza
From 1972 to 1976, Donina played for Reggio Audace F.C.. This was one of his longest stays at a single club. He then joined L.R. Vicenza Virtus for the 1976–1977 season.
