The International Bluegrass Music Association, or IBMA, is a group that helps promote and celebrate bluegrass music. It is a special organization for people who work in or love bluegrass music.
About the IBMA
The IBMA started in 1985. Its first main office was in Owensboro, Kentucky. In 1988, the IBMA announced plans to create the International Bluegrass Music Museum. This museum was a joint project with the RiverPark Center in Owensboro.
In 1987, the IBMA created an important event called the World of Bluegrass. This event is a big combination of a trade show, concerts, and an awards ceremony. It first took place in Owensboro. Later, it moved to Louisville, Kentucky in 1997. From 2005 through 2012, Nashville, Tennessee hosted this event. Since 2013, the event has been held in Raleigh, North Carolina.
In 1991, the IBMA also started the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor. This Hall of Honor is located at the International Bluegrass Music Museum. It celebrates people who have made a big difference in bluegrass music. This includes both performers and others who have helped the music grow. In 2003, the IBMA moved its main offices to Nashville, Tennessee. About 2,500 members of the International Bluegrass Music Association help choose the award winners.
What the IBMA Does
The IBMA is a non-profit music group. Its main goal is to connect, teach, and support bluegrass professionals and fans. It respects the old traditions of bluegrass music. At the same time, it encourages new ideas in the bluegrass community all over the world.
Bluegrass Hall of Fame
