The International Bluegrass Music Association, or IBMA, is a special group that helps promote and celebrate bluegrass music. The Story of IBMA
The IBMA started in 1985. Its first home was in Owensboro, Kentucky. A few years later, in 1988, the IBMA helped create the International Bluegrass Music Museum. This museum is a great place to learn about bluegrass history.
World of Bluegrass Event
In 1987, the IBMA started a big event called the World of Bluegrass. This event is a mix of a trade show, concerts, and an awards ceremony. It first took place in Owensboro. Later, it moved to Louisville, Kentucky in 1997. From 2005 to 2012, Nashville, Tennessee hosted the event. Since 2013, the World of Bluegrass has been held in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Recognizing Bluegrass Legends
The IBMA also created the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor in 1991. This Hall of Honor is part of the museum. It celebrates people who have made huge contributions to bluegrass music. This includes both performers and others who work behind the scenes. In 2003, the IBMA moved its main offices to Nashville, Tennessee.
What IBMA Does
The IBMA is a non-profit group. This means they don't make money for themselves. Instead, they use their funds to support bluegrass music. Their main goal is to connect bluegrass professionals and fans. They also educate people about the music. They help keep bluegrass traditions alive while also encouraging new ideas.
Bluegrass Hall of Fame
The International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame honors the most important people in bluegrass music. These are artists and others who have made a lasting impact. New members are chosen each year by the 2,500 members of the IBMA.
