Interslavic is a special invented language. It was made for people from Slavic countries. The goal is for them to understand each other easily. It's a bit like a modern version of Old Church Slavonic, an old language from the 9th century.

Interslavic uses words and grammar that are common in many Slavic languages. This way, people from different Slavic nations can often understand it without having to learn it first.

How Interslavic Was Created

The very first idea for a language like Interslavic came a long time ago. A priest from Croatia, Juraj Križanić, wrote its first grammar rules between 1659 and 1666.

The modern form of Interslavic started much later, in 2006. A group of language experts worked together on a project called Slovianski. Later, in 2011, this project joined with another one called Neoslavonic. From that time on, the language has been known as Interslavic (or Medžuslovjansky).

Interslavic can be written in two main ways. You can use the Latin alphabet (like English) or the Cyrillic alphabet (like Russian). Today, several hundred people use Interslavic to communicate.

An Example of Interslavic

To help you see what Interslavic looks like, here is a famous prayer. It is called the Lord's Prayer.

Otče naš, ktory jesi v nebesah,
nehaj sveti se ime Tvoje.
Nehaj prijde kraljevstvo Tvoje,
nehaj bude volja Tvoja, kako v nebu tako i na zemji.
Hlěb naš vsakodenny daj nam dnes,
i odpusti nam naše grěhy,
tako kako my odpuščajemo našim grěšnikam.
I ne vvedi nas v pokušenje,
ale izbavi nas od zlogo.
