The Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center (IFCC) is a special arts center in North Portland, Oregon, United States. It's a place where people can enjoy and create art.

About the IFCC: History and Purpose

The IFCC opened in 1982. It was started by Commissioner Charles Jordan. He was the first African-American person elected to a city office in Portland.

The center is inside an old fire station building. This building was built in 1910. Today, it has a theater with 99 seats. It also has an art gallery and rooms for rehearsals or classes.

What the IFCC Does

The IFCC wants to bring people together. Its goal is to create a place where artists and audiences from all backgrounds can meet. They explore, save, and celebrate their different cultures.

The building is very important to the city. It is called Interstate Firehouse #24. Portland's Historic Landmarks Commission has named it a Portland Historic Landmark. This means it's a special building that should be protected.

Who Manages the Center?

The City of Portland owns the IFCC building. It is part of Portland Parks & Recreation. For a while, a group called IFCC, Inc. managed the center. This was a non-profit group, meaning they didn't aim to make money. They stopped managing it in May 2010.

In August 2010, the Portland city council voted to give management to Ethos Music Center. Everyone on the council agreed with this decision.

An opera called Queen of Knives was first performed here. Its world premiere happened at the center on May 7, 2010.

Ethos Music Center managed the building until December 31, 2014. After that, the City of Portland took over management again.
