Ipatinga is a city in Brazil. It is part of the Vale do Aço metropolitan area in the state of Minas Gerais. A metropolitan area is like a big city and its nearby towns working together.
In 2009, about 244,508 people lived in Ipatinga. The city covers an area of 165.509 square kilometers. Ipatinga was officially founded on April 29, 1964.
Ipatinga shares its borders with several other towns. These include Caratinga, Coronel Fabriciano, Mesquita, Santana do Paraíso, and Timóteo.
