Ira, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Ira is a small, quiet place in the state of Missouri, USA. It's not a big city or even a town with its own government. Instead, it's what we call an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and maybe a few buildings that are part of a larger county, but they don't have their own mayor or town council. Ira is found in the northeastern part of Laclede County.

Where is Ira Located?

Ira is nestled in the beautiful Ozarks region of south central Missouri. You can find this community along Missouri Route E. It's about six miles northwest of a place called Eldridge. It's also very close to the line that separates Laclede County from Dallas County.

A Glimpse into Ira's History

The community of Ira has a bit of history tied to its name. A post office was opened here in 1899. This post office helped people send and receive mail for many years. It stayed open until 1949. The name Ira comes from an early settler in the area, a person named Ira Waterman.
