Ira Losco is a famous singer and songwriter from Malta. She was born on July 31, 1981. Ira became very well known in 2002. She represented Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 with her song "7th Wonder". She came in second place, which was Malta's best result ever at that time!
Fourteen years later, in 2016, she went back to Eurovision. This time, she sang "Walk on Water" and finished twelfth. Ira Losco has released six music albums. She is one of the most successful musicians from Malta. In 2018 and 2019, she was a judge on the TV show X Factor Malta.

Early Career
Ira started her music journey with a college band called Tiara. The band broke up a few months after she sang for Malta in Eurovision in 2002. That contest was held in Tallinn. She earned second place with her song "7th Wonder".
In 2003, Ira Losco sang "Reaching Higher". This was the official song for the Xth Games of the Small States of Europe held in Malta. In 2008, she received the Midalja għall-Qadi tar-Repubblika award. This award recognizes people who have done great things for Malta.

Ira Losco has also worked in advertising in Malta. She has appeared in campaigns for brands like Guess and McDonald's.

Choosing a Song for 2016
In December 2015, it was announced that Ira had submitted two songs for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2016. This was the national competition to pick Malta's entry. Her songs were "Chameleon" and "That's why I love you". Both songs made it to the semifinal. "Chameleon" then moved on to the final.
On January 23, Ira won the national selection. She received over 40% of the votes from the Maltese public. After winning, Ira said she was open to singing a different song at Eurovision. She wanted to pick the song that would give Malta the best chance to win.
"Walk on Water"
The rules of the national final allowed the winning song to be changed. On February 19, 2016, it was announced that a special jury would choose the final song. This jury included experts from ten countries and Malta. They would consider several songs, including a new version of "Chameleon".
On March 14, it was announced that Ira would perform "Walk on Water". The song and its music video were released on March 17, 2016. Ira's dress for the contest was designed by Alex Zabotto-Bentley. He has also designed for other famous artists.
In the first semi-final on May 10, 2016, "Walk on Water" qualified for the Eurovision final. In the final on May 14, 2016, Ira Losco placed 12th out of 26 countries.
Personal Life
In May 2016, Ira Losco and her partner, Sean Gravina, announced they were expecting a baby. Their son, Harry, was born on August 25, 2016. Ira and Sean got married on December 1, 2019. In June 2020, Ira announced they were expecting another baby. Their daughter, Gigi, was born on November 14, 2020.
Activism and Support
Ira Losco has shown her support for many important social causes in Malta. She supports LGBT rights. She also works on campaigns against bullying among teenagers. In 2014, she was nominated for an award by the Malta Gay Rights Movement.
