The Our Lady of Solitude Cathedral (also known as Irapuato Cathedral) is a very important Roman Catholic church in Irapuato, Mexico. You can find it right in front of the Plaza Monumental Miguel Hidalgo. This church is special because it's the main church for the Diocese of Irapuato, which is like the central office for the bishop.
We don't know exactly when the church was built. But a count from 1631 showed it was already a parish church back then. It became a cathedral in 2004, thanks to Pope John Paul II.
Cathedral Design and Style
This cathedral was built in the Baroque style, which is known for its fancy and detailed decorations. Like many Catholic churches, its floor plan looks like a Latin cross from above.
The ceiling of the church has a special curved shape called a corrugated canon vault. Its side arches are also shaped with many angles. Even though Irapuato was a smaller place back then, the inside of the church feels very large and open.
