Irene Dailey (born September 12, 1920 – died September 24, 2008) was a talented American actress. She performed on stage, in movies, and on television. She was known for her strong performances and won several awards during her long career.

Irene Dailey was born in New York City. Her parents were Helen Theresa and Daniel James Dailey. She had a brother named Dan Dailey, who also became a famous actor.

Irene loved acting and worked hard. She won the 1966 Drama Desk Award for her amazing work in a play called Rooms. She also played Nettie Cleary in the original Broadway show The Subject Was Roses (1964). This play won a Tony Award, which is a very important award for theater. She acted in many other Broadway plays too, like Idiot's Delight and You Know I Can't Hear You When the Water's Running.

In 1969, Irene joined the cast of a popular TV show called The Edge of Night. She played Pamela Stewart, a character who was often causing trouble. In 1971, she won the Sarah Siddons Award for her theater work in Chicago.

Irene became very well-known for her role as Liz Matthews on the TV soap opera Another World. She joined the show in 1974 and played the character for many years. Liz Matthews was a main character, often called "Aunt Liz." She was sometimes a bit nosy but also very caring.

Irene's acting on Another World was highly praised. She won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Actress in 1979. This is a big award for daytime TV shows. Even after her main role ended in 1986, she came back for special appearances until 1994.
