Another expert, Javier de Hoz, has a different idea. He believes the end of the name, "-pal," might come from a Latin word. This Latin word is palus, which means 'swamp'. So, the name could also suggest a place that was once swampy.
A Look at History
Iriépal used to be its own independent town. But in 1969, something big happened. The village of Iriépal became part of the larger city of Guadalajara. This is like a smaller town joining a bigger city to become one. Two other villages, Valdenoches and Taracena, also joined Guadalajara at the same time.
