The Isaac Reed House is a special old building located at 30-34 Main Street in downtown Newport, New Hampshire. It was built around 1869. This house is a great example of a building style called Second Empire architecture. It's also an important part of the historic downtown area.

What Does the Isaac Reed House Look Like?
The Isaac Reed House stands across from the old shops in Newport. You can find it on the east side of Main Street, not far from the Newport Opera House. It's a two-and-a-half-story building made of wood. The outside is covered with clapboard siding.
Architectural Style: Second Empire
The house is built in the Second Empire style. This style is known for its special roof, called a mansard roof. This roof has dormer windows that stick out, each with a rounded top. The front of the house has three main sections. The first floor is split into two parts. On the left, there's an entrance with a small porch. On the right, there's a bay window with fancy decorations.

The Isaac Reed House was built around 1869 by Dr. Isaac Reed. He was a dentist in the local area. This house is a key part of the group of important town and county buildings nearby.
Saving a Historic Building
Originally, some parts were added to the back of the house. These additions were not in the original style and were put there to make the building into many apartments. However, these extra parts were taken off in the 1970s.
The town of Newport had thought about tearing down the house as part of a big city improvement plan. But they decided not to. Instead, they chose to protect and improve the historic buildings in the area. This decision helped save the Isaac Reed House for future generations to enjoy.
