William Isaac Robinson (born August 21, 1975 – died March 29, 2020) was an American lawyer and politician. He was a member of the Democratic Party. From 2019 to 2020, he served in the Michigan House of Representatives. This is where laws are made for the state of Michigan.

Isaac Robinson's Early Life and Education

William Isaac Robinson was born in Lansing, Michigan, on August 21, 1975. His mother, Rose Mary Robinson, was also an activist and politician.

Isaac went to college at the University of Michigan. In 1998, he earned a degree called a Bachelor of General Studies. Later, in 2001, he got his law degree (called a Juris Doctor) from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law.

Isaac Robinson's Career

After finishing law school, Robinson worked as a law clerk for the United Automobile Workers. This is a large union that represents workers.

From 2003 to 2010, he was a political director for Michigan Teamsters Joint Council #43. This group helps organize and represent truck drivers and other workers. In 2012, Isaac Robinson decided to open his own law firm.

Isaac Robinson's Political Journey

Isaac Robinson followed in his mother's footsteps. His mother, Rose Mary Robinson, represented the 4th district in the Michigan House of Representatives. She served from 2013 to 2019.

Because of term limits, his mother could not run for a fourth term. Term limits mean a politician can only serve a certain number of times. Isaac decided to run for her seat. Many people ran in the Democratic primary election to replace her. A primary election is how a political party chooses its candidate.

Isaac Robinson won the primary election against thirteen other candidates. He then easily won the general election in his district. This district usually votes for Democratic candidates.

In February 2020, he supported Senator Bernie Sanders for president. Robinson was also a vice chair for Sanders' campaign in Michigan. He was a member of the Detroit chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America. This is a group that believes in democratic socialism.

While in the House of Representatives, Robinson worked on several important committees. These included the Tax Policy, Commerce and Tourism, and Regulatory Reform committees.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Robinson worked to help people. He supported laws that would temporarily stop evictions and foreclosures. He also wanted to prevent utilities from being shut off for 90 days. He even wrote a bill to remove waiting periods for unemployment benefits.

Isaac Robinson's Death

On March 29, 2020, Isaac Robinson was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital. He was having trouble breathing. Sadly, he passed away later that day. He was 44 years old. It is believed that his death was caused by a COVID-19 infection.

After his death, many important leaders praised him. These included Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Michigan State Attorney General Dana Nessel. Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield and Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib also shared kind words.

Abraham Aiyash took over as the representative for the 4th district after Robinson's death.
