Violeta Isabel Cereceda Parra (born 29 September 1939), known as Isabel Parra, is a famous singer and songwriter from Chile. She is well-known for performing and interpreting traditional Latin American folk music.
Early Life and Music
Isabel Parra was born in Chile in 1939. She started her music journey very early, at just 13 years old. Her first recording was with her mother, Violeta Parra, who was a world-famous folk musician. Since then, Isabel has performed and recorded songs by many other well-known Latin American folk singers.
Her Music Career
After a big change in Chile's government on September 11, 1973, Isabel Parra had to live outside her home country for many years. She lived in Argentina and France. When democracy returned to Chile, she was able to go back home.
Isabel Parra has traveled and performed all over the world during her career. She was a very important part of a music style called Nueva Canción Chilena, which means "New Chilean Song". This music movement often shared messages about social issues and hope. Isabel Parra also comes from a very musical and artistic family. Her brother, Ángel Parra, was also a famous folk singer. Her uncle, Nicanor Parra, was a well-known poet.
