Isabella of Navarre (born 1512, died after 1560) was a princess from the Kingdom of Navarre. She was the daughter of John III of Navarre and Queen Catherine I of Navarre. The year Isabella was born, most of Navarre was taken over by Aragon. Because of this, she grew up in France.
In 1528, there were talks about her marrying John Zápolya, who was the king of Hungary and an ally of the French king. However, this marriage never happened. On August 16, 1532, Isabella married René I de Rohan, who was the Viscount of Rohan. He passed away in 1552.

Isabella's Role as Godmother
Isabella became the godmother to her grand-nephew, Henry III of Navarre. She carried him to his baptism ceremony in 1554. This was an important role, showing her connection to the royal family.
Isabella and the Protestant Reformation
Isabella became interested in Calvinism, a branch of Protestantism, quite early. However, she did not officially change her religion while her husband was alive, as he remained Catholic.
In 1556, she met admiral de Coligny, a famous Protestant leader. In 1557, she was in Béarn when Queen Joan III of Navarre introduced the Reformation in Navarre. Isabella officially converted to Protestantism in 1558. Her castle in Blain then became a major center for Protestants in that area.
The first Protestant church in the region of Brittany was organized at her Castle of Blain. She welcomed Protestant reformers like d'Andelot there. He had a mission in Nantes and gave the first Protestant sermon there with other reformers, Fleurer and Loiseleur de Villiers. In 1560, the King of France granted Isabella and her household the freedom to practice their religion on her own lands.
