Isatou Njie-Saidy (born 5 March 1952) is a Gambian politician. She served as the Vice President of the Gambia from 1997 to 2017. During this time, she was also the Secretary of State for Women's Affairs. She made history as the first woman in the Gambia to become Vice President. She was also one of the first women in West Africa to reach such a high political position.

Early Life and Education
Isatou Njie-Saidy was born in Kuntaya, North Bank Division, on March 15, 1952. She went to Brikama Primary School from 1959 to 1964. After that, she studied at Armitage High School from 1964 to 1970.
Becoming a Teacher
In 1971, she attended Yundum Teacher Training College. She finished her teacher training in 1974.
Further Studies Abroad
Njie-Saidy continued her education in other countries. From July to December 1979, she studied in the Netherlands. There, she earned a diploma in industrial management. In 1981, she went to the University of the Philippines. She received a certificate in managing small-scale industries. In 1988, she earned a Master of Science degree. She studied Social and Economic Development at the University of Swansea.
Political Career and Leadership
Isatou Njie-Saidy began her political career by focusing on women's issues. From 1983 to 1989, she was the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Women's Bureau. This group made important decisions for the National Women's Council.
Joining the Government
In 1994, Yahya Jammeh took power in the Gambia. Two years later, in July 1996, Njie-Saidy was appointed as a minister. She became the Minister of Health, Social Welfare, and Women's Affairs.
Becoming Vice President
After the 1996 presidential election, President Jammeh won. On March 20, 1997, Isatou Njie-Saidy was appointed Vice-President of the Gambia. She also continued her role as Secretary of State for Health, Social Welfare, and Women's Affairs.
She often spoke and wrote about important issues for women in the Gambia.
Resignation from Office
In December 2015, there were reports that her relationship with President Jammeh was difficult. On January 18, 2017, Njie-Saidy resigned from her positions. This happened during a time of political change in the Gambia. Several other government ministers also resigned at that time.
Personal Life
Isatou Njie-Saidy is married and has four children. She is fluent in several languages. These include Mandinka, Fulani, Wolof, English, and French.
