Ischoklad (pronounced ish-SHOCK-lahd) is a special type of candy that melts easily in your mouth. Its name means "Ice chocolate" in Swedish. In German, it's called Eiskonfekt, which means "Ice confectionery."

This sweet treat first came from Germany. Now, it's very popular there and in Sweden. During Christmas, it becomes a special seasonal candy in countries like Denmark and Sweden.

What Is Ischoklad Made Of?

Ischoklad is usually made with just two main ingredients. These are chocolate and coconut oil. About half to two-thirds of the candy is chocolate. The rest, about one-third to one-half, is coconut oil.

Why Is It Called "Ice Chocolate"?

The name "Ice chocolate" comes from how it feels when you eat it. It melts very quickly in your mouth. This melting creates a cool feeling. It's like a little burst of coolness!

This cooling effect happens because of the coconut oil. Coconut oil melts at a lower temperature than chocolate. It melts between 20 and 23 degrees Celsius (68 and 73 degrees Fahrenheit). This is about 10 degrees lower than chocolate's melting point. When it melts in your warm mouth, it absorbs heat, making your mouth feel cool.

Sometimes, other ingredients are added to make the cooling feeling even stronger. Some recipes might include menthol. In factories, a substance called urea is often added for the same reason.

Where Is Ischoklad Popular?

Ischoklad is a very popular treat during Christmas in Sweden. In Germany, one of the biggest companies that makes Eiskonfekt is called Eichetti.
