A Life of Service: Isikia Savua's Career
Joining the Military
Isikia Savua joined the Fijian army right after high school in 1971. He served his country for 18 years. By the time he left the military in 1988, he had become a lieutenant colonel. This is a high rank in the army.
Working as a Diplomat
After his time in the military, Mr. Savua worked as a diplomat for four years (1988-1992). He first worked for the Fiji Mission to the United Nations. There, he was a counsellor focusing on political matters. Later, for six months, he served as a consul general in Sydney, Australia. A consul general helps citizens from their home country who are living or traveling abroad.
Leading the Police Force
In 1992, Savua joined the Fiji Police Force. He started as a deputy commissioner. This was the second highest position in the police force. Just one year later, he was promoted to commissioner. This meant he was the top leader of the entire police force. He held this important job until 2002.
Ambassador to the United Nations
On March 4, 2003, Isikia Savua took on his final role. He became Fiji's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations. In this job, he spoke for Fiji at the UN. The United Nations is an organization where countries work together for peace and global cooperation.
Personal Life
Isikia Savua came from the village of Tobu. This village is in the district of Nakorotubu, located in Ra Province in Fiji. He was married to Frances. Together, they had two sons, named Daniel and Josefa.
Death
Isikia Savua passed away on May 30, 2011. He was cremated on June 3 of the same year.
