Isla is a small, quiet place located in northeastern Sabine County, Texas, in the United States. It's what we call an "unincorporated community." This means it's a settlement that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town does. Instead, it's usually governed by the county.
Where is Isla?
Isla is found in the eastern part of Texas. It sits right where two roads meet: State Highway 87 and Farm to Market Road 276. This spot is about eleven miles northeast of a town called Hemphill.
A Glimpse into Isla's History
Isla has a bit of history, even though it's a small place.
Early Days
A post office was first opened in Isla in the year 1896. This was an important step for the community, as it helped people send and receive mail.
Growth in the 1930s
By the middle of the 1930s, Isla had grown a little. At that time, about twenty-five people lived there. The community also had three businesses, which likely served the needs of the local residents.
