Isla de Jueyes is a group of three tiny islands located off the southern coast of Puerto Rico. No one lives on these islands.

They are part of the city of Ponce. Ponce has seven small islands, and Isla de Jueyes is the smallest of them all. It covers an area of about 2.89 cuerdas, which is roughly 2.8 acres. These islands are considered part of the barrio (a type of neighborhood) called Vayas.

Where are the Jueyes Islands?

These islands are sometimes called cays or islets because they are so small. They are located very close to the Puerto Rican mainland. They are about 0.12 miles (0.19 kilometers) south of the main island. The closest part of the mainland is the Vayas neighborhood in Ponce.

The three islands are lined up from southwest to northeast. They are separated from each other by about 120 feet (37 meters). The island closest to the mainland is about 600 feet (183 meters) away. The furthest island is about 0.43 miles (0.69 kilometers) from the mainland. The nearest populated area on the mainland is a place called Hacienda Villa Esperanza.

Nature and Weather

The islands vary in size. The smallest is about 130 by 130 feet (40 by 40 meters). The largest is about 200 by 260 feet (61 by 79 meters). They are located about 660 feet (201 meters) off the coast of Puerto Rico.

The weather on the islands is dry. Because of this, they are home to a type of dry forest. The islands are mostly covered in brush and small plants.

Even though it's not an official nature reserve, the Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources looks after the islands. This helps protect their unique environment. The group of islands stretches for about 0.31 miles (0.5 kilometers) from northeast to southwest.
