From 1950 to 1970, Albert Evans was the MP for Islington South West. He was a member of the Labour Party and won every election during this period. He usually won by a large number of votes, showing strong support for the Labour Party in the area.

In the 1950 election, Albert Evans won with 64.74% of the votes. The Conservative Party candidate received 27.89%. This was a big difference, showing how popular the Labour Party was there.

In 1970, George Cunningham, also from the Labour Party, became the new MP. He continued the Labour Party's winning streak in Islington South West. He won with 60.89% of the votes, while the Conservative candidate got 31.21%.

The constituency was then abolished in February 1974. Its areas were divided and became part of other constituencies, like Islington South & Finsbury. This happens sometimes when populations change or new boundaries are drawn.
