Where Ismael Cortinas Is Located
This town is found in the southwest part of the Flores Department. It sits right where two important roads meet: Route 23 and Route 12. This spot is special because it's close to the borders of three other departments: Soriano, Colonia, and San José. A river called the Grande River (Uruguay), also known as Arroyo Grande, flows nearby.
The Story of Ismael Cortinas
The town of Ismael Cortinas has an interesting history. It officially became a "Pueblo" (which means village) on October 18, 1950. This happened because of a special law, Ley N° 11.607.
The village was named after a very important person, Ismael Cortinas. He was a politician who served as a Deputy and a Senator. He was also a journalist and wrote plays! Later, on November 15, 1963, the village grew even more. Its status was changed to "Villa" (which means town) by another law, Ley N° 13.167.
