Isocoma humilis, also known as the Zion goldenbush or Zion jimmyweed, is a special and rare plant. It belongs to the sunflower family. You can only find this plant growing in southern Utah in the United States. Some of these plants live inside Zion National Park, a beautiful place known for its tall cliffs and canyons.
About the Zion Goldenbush
The Zion goldenbush is a small, bushy plant. It usually grows to be about 8 centimeters (around 3 inches) tall. Its leaves are long and narrow, like a small spoon, and can be up to 50 millimeters (about 2 inches) long. They often have deep cuts or lobes along their edges.
What its Flowers Look Like
The flowers of the Zion goldenbush are quite interesting. Each flower head is about 7 millimeters (a quarter of an inch) wide. This is fairly large for plants in its group! Unlike some sunflowers, the Zion goldenbush does not have the big, showy "petals" (which are called ray flowers). Instead, it has many small "disc flowers" in the center, usually between 19 and 28 of them.
