Who is Issi Noho?

Issi Noho is a special panda who has amazing magic powers! He is the main character in all the stories.

How Issi Noho Got His Magic

Issi Noho's magic comes from special "magic number squares" that he got from his Chinese ancestors. A magic square is a grid of numbers where every row, column, and even the diagonal lines add up to the same total. Issi Noho's job was to fill in the missing number in these squares.

However, Issi Noho isn't very good at math! His mistakes when trying to complete the magic squares often lead to funny and unexpected magical results. This is what makes his adventures so exciting and humorous.

How Issi Noho Got His Name

Issi Noho's name has a funny story behind it. When he was first discovered by two children, Sally and Andrew, he was hidden inside a big packing case. Issi had cleverly covered the case with branches and leaves to camouflage it.

The children could only see some letters on the side of the case. The full words were "THIS SIDE UP, USE NO HOOKS." But because of the camouflage, Sally and Andrew could only read the middle letters: ISSI NOHO. They thought this was his name, and so it stuck!
