István Fekete facts for kids
István Fekete (born January 25, 1900, in Gölle, Austria-Hungary – died June 23, 1970, in Budapest, Hungary) was a famous Hungarian writer. He wrote many popular books for young people, especially stories about animals.
He is best known for his youth novel Tüskevár ("Thorn Castle"), published in 1957. This book tells the story of two city boys enjoying their summer vacation near Lake Balaton and the Zala River. They have many adventures and learn about nature. An old man helps them grow up during their journey. Tüskevár won the Attila József Prize in 1960 and was made into a film in 1967. In 2005, it was voted the 8th most popular novel in Hungary during the Big Read event. Its sequel, Téli berek ("Winter Grove"), came out in 1959.
