Itsandra was once a very important kingdom, called a sultanate, on the island of Grand Comore. It was one of the two main sultanates there before the French arrived and took control of the Comoros islands.

What Was Itsandra?

Itsandra was a powerful kingdom on the island of Grand Comore. A sultanate is a land ruled by a leader called a sultan. Before the French came, Itsandra was one of the two biggest and most important sultanates on the island.

How Itsandra Changed

In 1886, the Sultanate of Anjouan, another island kingdom, took control of Itsandra. After this, Itsandra became part of a larger, united kingdom called the Sultanate of Ngazidja. This was a big change for the people of Itsandra and for the history of the Comoros islands.
