Ivan's Musical Journey

Ivan Neville began his solo music career in the 1980s. His first solo album was called If My Ancestors Could See Me Now. A song from this album, "Not Just Another Girl," became a Top 30 hit on the Billboard music charts. He also had a duet with the famous singer Bonnie Raitt called "Falling Out of Love." This song was even featured in a movie!

Another one of Ivan's songs, "Why Can't I Fall in Love," was part of the soundtrack for the 1990 movie Pump Up the Volume.

Playing with Famous Bands

Ivan has played with many well-known musicians and bands throughout his career. He often performed with The Neville Brothers, which included his dad and uncles. He also played in Bonnie Raitt's band for a few years.

One of his big collaborations was with The Rolling Stones. He played keyboards on two of their albums, Dirty Work and Voodoo Lounge. He also joined Keith Richards' solo band, the X-Pensive Winos, and toured with them.

In the late 1990s, Ivan was a member of the band Spin Doctors. He toured with them and even sang lead vocals for a while when their main singer had voice problems.

Forming Dumpstaphunk

In 2003, Ivan Neville started his own band called Dumpstaphunk. This band is known for its unique funk sound. They released their first full album, Everybody Want Sum, in 2010. Dumpstaphunk has performed on popular TV shows like the Late Show with David Letterman.

Music for a Cause

After Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005, Ivan Neville joined other musicians to help his city. He became part of The New Orleans Social Club. They recorded a special album called Sing Me Back Home to raise money and support. Ivan's powerful version of the song "Fortunate Son" on this album was highly praised.

He also helped create a tribute album for another New Orleans music legend, Fats Domino. Ivan and Dumpstaphunk contributed their own version of the song "Goin' Home" to this album.

Ivan Neville has also appeared in a documentary film called Make It Funky!. This movie explores the history of New Orleans music. In the film, he performs with other great musicians, showing off the city's rich musical traditions.

Through the Tipitina's Foundation, Ivan and other New Orleans musicians have performed many benefit concerts. These shows help support charities that assist people affected by Hurricane Katrina. Ivan's band often includes Nick Daniels and Tony Hall on bass, Ian Neville (his cousin) on guitar, and Raymond Weber on drums.
