Ivana Loudová (born March 8, 1941 – died July 25, 2017) was a famous Czech composer. She wrote many different kinds of music. Her pieces included music for orchestras, small groups of instruments, and voices. She also wrote music for films and plays.

Early Life and Education

Ivana Loudová was born in a town called Chlumec nad Cidlinou in what is now the Czech Republic. She loved music from a young age. She studied at two important music schools in Prague: the Prague Conservatory and the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts.

At these schools, she learned from well-known composers like Miloslav Kabeláč and Emil Hlobil. Later, she traveled to Paris, France, to continue her studies. There, she learned from other famous composers, Olivier Messiaen and Andre Jolivet, at the Centre Bourdan.

Her Musical Works

Ivana Loudová wrote many different types of music. She created pieces for large orchestras and for smaller groups of instruments, known as chamber music. She also composed music for singers and choirs.

One of her early choral works was the Vocal Symphony in 1965. She also wrote special songs for children's choirs, like the Little Christmas Cantata, which won an award. Her music was even played by groups like the American Wind Symphony Orchestra.

Ivana Loudová received special recognition for her compositions. She earned an honorable mention in Mannheim, Germany, for her piece called Rhapsody in Black. She also won the "Guido d'Arezzo" International Polyphonic Competition in Italy several times, in 1978, 1980, and 1984. This shows how talented she was in creating music for many voices.

Teaching and Awards

Ivana Loudová shared her knowledge with new generations of musicians. From 1992, she taught composition at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Prague. This is the same school where she once studied.

Throughout her life, Ivana Loudová received many awards for her contributions to music. She was given the Heidelberger Kunstpreis in 1993. In 2015, the Ministry of Culture honored her for her important work in the music world. She also received an award from the Protective Association in 2017.

Later Life

Ivana Loudová passed away in Prague on July 25, 2017, at the age of 76. She left behind a wonderful collection of musical works. Her music continues to be performed and enjoyed by people around the world.
