Ivari Padar (born March 12, 1965) is an important politician from Estonia. He has held several big jobs in the Estonian government. These include being the Minister of Finance (like the country's money manager) and the Minister of Agriculture (who deals with farming and food). He also used to lead a political group called the Social Democratic Party.

Ivari Padar's Political Journey
Ivari Padar was born in Navi, which is in Võru Parish, Estonia. His journey in politics began in the early 1990s.
Early Roles in Government
From 1993 to 1994, Padar served as the Deputy Mayor of Võru. This role helped him understand how local government works. After that, he worked with farmers as the Executive Chairman of the Võru Farmers Union from 1994 to 1995. He then moved to the national level, working as an Assistant to the Chancellor at the Finance Ministry from 1995 to 1997.
Serving as a Minister
Padar became the Minister of Agriculture for the first time in 1999. He held this position until 2002. Later, he was the Chairman of Võru City Council from 2002 to 2005. He also served as a member of the Riigikogu, which is the Estonian Parliament, multiple times.
In April 2007, he took on another big role as the Minister of Finance. This job involves managing the country's money and economy.
Leading a Political Party
From 2003 to 2009, Ivari Padar was the leader of the Social Democratic Party. This meant he was in charge of guiding the party and its goals.
Working in the European Parliament
Padar also represented Estonia in the European Parliament. He was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 2009 to 2014, and again from 2017 to 2019. In the European Parliament, he worked on important committees. These included the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs.

Beyond his direct political roles, Ivari Padar is also a member of the Reconciliation of European Histories Group. This group works on understanding and bringing together different historical perspectives in Europe.
