Izhak Graziani (born August 4, 1924 – died July 7, 2003) was a famous Israeli music conductor. He was known for leading many orchestras and for his important role in Israeli music.
Who Was Izhak Graziani?
Izhak Graziani, often called "Ziko," was born in Ruse, Bulgaria, on August 4, 1924. He loved music from a young age. He studied music and how to lead an orchestra (conducting) in his home country.
In 1948, he moved to Israel. This move is called aliyah. After arriving, he joined the IDF Orchestra. This is the main orchestra of the Israeli army. He started there as a trumpet player.
Graziani passed away at his home in Tel Aviv on July 7, 2003. He was 79 years old. He was buried in Kiryat Shaul Cemetery. He had a wife named Dora, two daughters, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His daughter, Kochva Gal-Gratziani, also became a choir conductor.
To honor his memory, streets were named after him. You can find streets named after Izhak Graziani in Sofia, Bulgaria, and in Israeli cities like Kfar Saba, Rosh Ha'Ayin, and Tel Aviv.
His Music Career
Graziani played the trumpet with the IDF Orchestra until 1952. He took a break from the orchestra for a few years.
In 1960, the orchestra's conductor, Shalom Ronli-Riklis, retired. Izhak Graziani then took his place as the new conductor. He became the leader of the IBA Radio Orchestra. This orchestra later became known as the IBA Radio and TV Orchestra.
Graziani was also the music director for the Eurovision Song Contest 1979. This is a very big international music competition. He helped make sure all the music sounded great for the show.
He retired from his conducting role in 2003. Sadly, he passed away just three months after retiring. During his career, he even worked with the famous American composer and conductor, Leonard Bernstein.
