Józef Czyrek (born 20 July 1928, died 3 June 2013) was an important Polish politician. He served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Poland from 1980 to 1982. This was during a time when Poland was known as the People's Republic of Poland.

Early Life and Education

Józef Czyrek was born in 1928 in a place called Białobrzegi, which was then part of Poland. He went to Jagiellonian University and earned a degree in economics in 1950.

Political Career

Czyrek began his career as a researcher at universities. In 1952, he started working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He joined the Polish United Workers' Party in 1955. He became a member of the Politburo, which was a very important group in the party.

He worked as a diplomat in Belgrade from 1962 to 1968. Later, he held important roles in the foreign affairs ministry. He was the deputy minister of foreign affairs until August 1980.

In August 1980, Czyrek was chosen to be the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He took over from Emil Wojtaszek. His time as foreign minister ended in 1982. In December 1982, he became a vice-president of the Patriotic Movement for National Rebirth (PRON).

Czyrek also worked as a close advisor to Poland's leader, Wojciech Jaruzelski.

Important Talks

Józef Czyrek took part in the Round Table Talks. These were important discussions between the ruling government and opposition groups in Poland. The talks lasted from February to April 1989. They helped bring big changes to Poland.

His role as a top advisor ended on 30 July 1989. This was when Jaruzelski stepped down from leading the communist party. Czyrek also resigned from the party's central committee on the same day.

Later Life and Passing

Józef Czyrek passed away on 3 June 2013.
